Put me on the side of President Obama in support of Gay Marriage.  I think that tolerance should include all. Everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion or lack thereof.  Who a person loves shouldn’t make any difference to you or me.  It should only matter to them.  But apparently there are those people who seem to know what’s best for everyone, and they use the Bible to justify their hate and bigotry.

I was raised a Catholic but I have to admit I’m not a good one.  I’ve gotten discouraged with organized religion. Which one is correct?  Catholicism?  Buddhism?  Baptists, Lutherans, Jews, Muslims, Mormon, Hinduism?  So the answer for me is that the only religion is the religion of God.  Whoever he/she is.  The God I chose to believe in could be the same God that all religions worship, but by a different name.

Does my God hate Gay and Lesbian people.  Nope, I’m pretty sure he loves them as much as the narrow-minded bigot who professes that God wants them killed.

I have never read the Bible and have no intentions of ever reading it.  I don’t want my judgement about being tolerant of other people clouded by what some mortal men wrote centuries ago.  Just as I don’t want to be influenced today by people interpreting the passages of the Bible to slant it to their point of view.

My Facebook page has several posts daily about God and Religion and that’s fine.  You have the right to believe as you feel your Faith dictates.  It doesn’t however, give you the right to try to condemn me to Hell (if such a place exists) because I don’t conform to your beliefs.  What you don’t have the right to do is to write posts that are hateful to people who think and act differently than you.  All that does is to show others how ungodly you really are.

Not too many years ago, half the States had laws on the book outlawing inter-racial marriages using religion as a basis for such prejudice:

“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races show that he did not intend for the races to mix.”  The quote is from Loving vs Virginia, from a case when a mixed race couple married in 1959 and were arrested under Virginia law.

The US Supreme Court  in 1967, unanimously overturned the Virginia law and similar miscegenation laws of 15 other states.   Persons of different racial backgrounds have been able to marry throughout the US ever since.  (reference http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_mar14.htm)

So will a Supreme Court decision ever decide the same for Gay and Lesbian’s.  Time will tell.  Time will tell.
